“WALKING DOWN THE MEMORY LANE”
Kolhapur as a city has always been vibrant and prosperous fertile land. Its historical importance of a princely state has nowhere kept it away from the array of development. The medical faculty in the city of Kolhapur has always been up to date & abreast with the current practicing norms & standards of treatment.
The concept of Continuing Medical Education (CME) was seeded in Kolhapur back in 1979 when a group of Surgeons gathered together & started the activity called ‘Journal Club of Kolhapur’ on the 1st Saturday of the month to review & discuss Interesting cases & Journal articles to gain insight into the practicing trends which was followed by an elaborate discussion.
One of the highlights of the Club was the organisation of Maharashtra State Chapter Association Conference (MASICON) held in 1986 hosted by Kolhapur at the grand Shalini Palace. The meeting was attended enthusiastically by surgeons all over Maharashtra.
The Journal Club was religiously conducted when the need for stepping up towards recognized society accredited to the Maharashtra Chapter of ASI was recognized. On 24th May 2006 all the Surgeons joined hands together & The Kolhapur Surgical Society was incarnated. The Kolhapur surgical society was Presided over by Dr. Manohar Sarnaik & Secretary Dr. Sunil Nadkarni.
Since then there has been no looking back & Kolhapur Surgical Society has been growing stronger day by day with newer addition of members to its team. The magnanimity of the society is depicted by the fact that it has won the best City Chapter for consecutive 9 years.
The strength of the society has been the unity of the Surgical fraternity & the dedication of its members to achieve success & standards of the highest level of care in treatment.
Kolhapur Surgical Society further went a step ahead and introduced the prestigious Orations in the name of Dr. Bhadre & Dr. Prabhu to commemorate their achievements and have been continuing with the trend till date.
